Almost 60,000 American soldiers died in the Vietnam conflict before America withdrew, not to mention the estimated 1.5 million Vietnamese. I am as patriotic as the next guy, but please don't discount the effect the grass roots protests had in speeding up the decision to withdraw from a war America was not winning and had little prospect of turning around.

Speeding up the decision saved a lot of soldiers' lives that would have been uselessly lost otherwise. What better way to "support the troops."
