Reply to "Racing Numbers"

OK guys. I have used magnetic numbers for over 25 years. They will usually stay on up to 80 MPH. Mine are so old that I warm them to get them pliable enough to lay flat on the body. Cold days, I lay them over the defroster for a while. Warm days, I just let the sun shine on they until they are warm.

They do not stick good on thick paint, stone guard paint, or body putty. My Pantera has very thick paint so I use static cling numbers on it.

They do not stick good across body lines or moldings. I cut the numbers for my Escort so the molding runs through the center of the numbers.

To avoid scratching, I carry a spray bottle and towel to clean the surface of the car and the back of the numbers. Extra wax on that area of the car may help, too.

Also be aware of the fact that they may cloud your clearcoat, especially if it is sunny and you have a little moisture behind the numbers. One day in the sun is enough to see the cloudy outline of your numbers.

Give your course workers a break. Make your numbers large and legible. Use contrasting colors. Stay away from the artsy-crapsy stylized stuff. MAKE THEM LEGIBLE!!!

Go quickly and have fun.
