Reply to "Radiator Placement"

Thin fans, like the Spal "medium air flow" fans, 11 inches in diameter, mounted low enough on the radiator to miss the headlight bar (not centered) should allow the radiator to stand upright in the oem position. The Spal "high air flow fans" are too thick, they'll hit the forward bulkhead. To use the Spal fans you would have to fabricate a fan shroud, or install them without a shroud on metal straps. Remember the fans need to be spaced about 1/2 inch to 1 inch away from the core.

I haven't actually done this myself (I decided to keep the fans in the OEM position), but I did size things up, I spent a lot of time looking at the options a person may have. I had both sets of Spal fans on hand, but I didn't have the Flex-a-lite kit people generally use with the Fluidyne rad. But since the Flex-a-lite kit centers the fans on the fan shroud, I doubt that the radiator could stand upright with the Flex-a-lite kit (the fans will hit the head light bar).
