Boss is the Boss!
The dowel pin that connects the "bellcrank lever" to the slave cylinder rod lost one of the retaining clips and had started to work its way out. This would have put enormous sideways pressure on the lever and is undoubtedly what caused it to crack. Check those clips often or better yet, drill the dowel for cotter pins.
