What you came across was at one time the only reasonably affordable manner to retain the stock driveshafts. Correct factory dimension Ujoints were exceedingly expensive back in the day, so our vendors came up with the sleeve "solution".

Main problem with that solution was the sleeves tend to reach the end of their lifespan and tolerances get lost, bearing caps start wobbling with in the yolks, and yolks often are damaged so that the proper size Ujoints are too loose.

Then you get to buy new yolks, hopefully not in the ZF side of the assembly.

Should you have noticed any of the new bearing caps sliding into position a bit too easily you may want to revisit them to see if you have potential problems due to yoke damage.
