Rear bearing play

I have all new parts in my Longchamp's rear end. I'm not sure how to get the right gap or preload on the new wheel bearings. Googling for Jag rear ends state everything from
-0.002" to 0.002"
to
0.006", plus or minus 0.002"

I have tools to measure gap but not preload, and it's adjusted by machining a spacer, not by tightening a nut, so I don't have too much room for experimenting.

Does anybody know specs for Longchamp/Deauville, or at least a general number that normally works? I'm tempted to aim for 0.002" gap, but would like your input.
