Reply to "rear wheel bearing replacement"

Mike,

I just bought new wheel bearings from Bob Byars at Precision ProFormance (562-691-2526). He is in Brea, but all of the vendors should have them. Both bearings (inner and outer) were $60 total. You will also need a new axle nut. Don't reuse the old one. You do need a special socket to remove the axle nut, available from the vendors or online.

The wheel bearings are ball type bearings and come as an assembly.

There is a possibility that you may also have a worn axle (where the outer bearing rides) and/or problem with the bearing spacer. You won't be able to tell until the axle is removed.

The upright (the part that the axle bearings are pressed into) has a pivot shaft at the bottom. Pressed into the bottom of the upright are two bushings.
