Hey Gary, If I was going the plastic route I would use a abrasion resistant plastic. Granted it is probably a little more costly but it will resist scratches that are bound to happen from the amount of handling that piece will get.

PS- These plastics are the same type of materials that side-by-side vehicles use for windshields.
