Perhaps a photograph will help?

The pilot bearing sits in the end of the crankshaft.

The flywheel is bolted to the same end of the crankshaft. The end of the crankshaft is a close fit into the hole in the center of the flywheel.

Three pieces - crankshaft, flywheel, pilot bearing.
