If it has the lip,it is likely the original seal. My NAPA replacement did not have the lip.

You are going at it the right way - it will come out if you can get under the lip and work your way around, lifting as you go.

Perhaps using a Dremel with a cut-off wheel to remove a section of the lip will give you a better edge to work against?

UPDATE: Just read your post to the POCA forum. since you have the lip peeled up, how about a pair of vice-grips on the lip, and try to pull it out (leverage) like a claw hammer pulling out a nail?
