Thanks to all for the favorable comments. I didn't realize how bad my garage looked until I saw the picture posted. Johnny, you are absolutely correct. It sounds like you have had personal experience with this type of working environment. I would normally borrow paint booth time from friends in the business but none was available this time.
Hello Garth. I haven't talked to you since our 15 pantera caravan across the Golden Gate Bridge last summer. To answer your questions reqarding materials,I have to say I made some wrong choices here. I would normally use a base/clear system either Du pont Chromabase or PPG's Dbu system. Since I knew I would be fighting a dust problem,I decided to revert to my younger days (painted my first car 38 years ago)and use PPG DDL acrylic lacquer. I believe there has been resin change in this product. Rub out which is normally a piece of cake on lacquer proved very difficult and has required constant upkeep. I used DuPont 3240S 2 part primer surfacer. It's expensive at approx $400.00 dollars a gallon with catalyst. This stuff works great, worth the money. Straight to clean metal, builds great, no sealer required with 400 grit prep sand before base color. However, I found that it does not like lacquer. Adhesion was a problem until paint fully cured. I plan to repaint this summer, this time using base/clear as I should have the first time. Someone famous said it dosen't pay to take short cuts. Let me know Garth If you need any more detailed information. I might take you up on that offer to help.

regards... Mark
