When you hold the clutch, the t/o bearing
is rolling.
If it is in bad shape you should hear it then, but you say that there is no noise when you hold the clutch.
When you loosen the clutch, your t/o bearing
is not functioning, so you can't hear it.
But in this situation the primairy axle of the gearbox rotates, and so do the bearings
of it.
