Small crack in lower case - Is this a common problem?

After a 30 minute run on Sunday, I noticed a leak. Here's the culprit, a small bluster and crack in the ZF case near the drain plug. It only loses oil when hot. The car drives fine; no shifting issues.

Is this a common problem? It doesn't look like a stress point. Does it indicate an internal problem?

I've read the the case can be TIG welded, but does this require removal from the car?

Any info would be appreciated.
