RE crossmember widths, I'd be surprised if any Panteras had identical widths. Frame flex coupled with movement of the upper frame rails and accompanying camber gain, popped spot welds, even large upper camber bar adjustments, will all cause the measurements to vary.
Cutting the original crossmember(s) loose can be done with the engine/ZF in place, but it's incredibly messy and dangerous as you're directly below the cut area with a powerful Sawzall... My son did one Pantera at a CA Tech Session and it took nearly 4 hours, plus a looong shower to clean up afterwards. A safer, neater job results if the engine and ZF are out. Just a thought....
