spark knock dist. position

OK, I have been moving ny dist around. Too far counter- clock and it knocks under load. Too far twisted clockwise and it drags when starting. I ordered an MSD dash contol knob and box where I can adjust the timing up to 15 degrees either way. When I turn the dist. clockwise....I am giving it more total advance and that should reduce the knock. Right?
