Reply to "speedo cable lube"

I finally had enough of the bouncing Speedo.
Pulling the cable was easy as stated by larryw from the dash side. The cable was nasty with 30+ year old grease and grime. I placed the cable in a plastic bowl and sprayed it down with carb cleaner. Next used some fine emery cloth and cleaned up some light corrosion and sprayed it down again.

Dried it out with a fresh rag and lubed it with a light coat of NAPA Sil-Glyde. Sil- Glyde is a silcon based paste and among the many stated uses is Speedo cables. Reinstall of the cable was also easy. The Speedo now is bounce free at all speeds. The whole process was less than an hour.
