spring spacers

Help me out on this one.. my new 17 wheels will be here tomarrow. The vendor recomended that i remove the spring spacers to lower the car. It is also an uder $20 LF-TP mod. can I just cut them out with a chisel. Or do I have to remove the shock and disassemble? i figue i will look at this mod after I fit the big tires.
