Peter, you DO realize you can adjust the amount of vacuum advance your stock distributor gets by sticking a long 3/32" allen wrench inside the hose spigot and turning it either left or right? You'll have to do some driving tests to see the effect.
The amount of centrifugal advance delivered is also adjustable, both by changing the springs, and by swapping or modifying the cam limiter under the 'point plate', whether or not you actually use points. The stock Ford distributor is really an easily customize-able assembly that retrofits most of its parts including the bodies, from the late-'80s all the way back to 1957.
