Looking down into the empty housing through the cap end,you place a ball bearing into the seat with the inner race shoulder up, or facing the cap. Next comes a thick thrust washer to match the shoulder on the inner race. The pinion is then inserted into the bearing and washer,the splined shaft up or facing you. The second ball bearing is then placed over the splined end of the pinion gear, the inner race shoulder down or against the pinion. The shim pack is then reinstalled,the thickest being placed closest to the cap.(Doesn't really matter in which order) Then the cap is put in place and secured with the bolts that had been removed during the disassembly.
