tank level sensor

Hi,
I removed the tank level sensor and opended the plastic part. The contact of the potentiometer seemed well, the secon contact were lost, however it looks like. I soldered a wire lead between the termonals of the secon contact and the tank level sensor works well again. Question, the soldering and complete plastic stuff is mounted in the gasoline, include my soldering. is that ok ??
