For ANY funny electrical issue in our cars, the first thing to check is the grounding.

All the gauges get their ground in a daisy-chain manner - going through one to the other, etc. You might first check all the connections, and while in there, add another ground at the end of the chain.

Disconnect your battery before opening that console can of worms.
