Temp sensor

Racerx got me thinking about how I installed my sensor for my puller fans. I put the sensor in the block just below the thermostate. Also I bought a mechanical water temp. gauge and put the sensor into the water pump. I have noticed that I am reading the temperature of the feed water from the radiator not the hot water from the engine. Should I have two sensors, one for the fans and anouther for the gauge, or is there a better way?
