Not to worry, Peter. Years ago I installed an oil temp sensor in the front of our ZF near the ring gear mesh. After a 450-mile run at 'respectable speeds' across the desert to Las Vegas, I showed a maximum lube temp of 180 F.

Open road event runners may show a little higher temp (higher speeds but shorter duration).
