Rene, a wastegate is used on the exhaust side of the turbocharger, to control the speed of the turbo and boost pressure. A blow-off valve is used on the intake side of the turbocharger, to bleed off excess pressure caused by the throttle being closed. A blow-off valve is crucial for proper throttle response.
