Think it's in 1st but it's in 3rd.

I just got my car back on the road after meny modifications. Twice I have down shifted into 1st, non agressivly, and found the car sluggish. I determined it was in 3rd instead of 1st. I adjusted the stick at the gate to the proper position and clearance in the manual. Any ideas on what else I should look at. As a side note, if this helps, some times I have to shift in second prior to shifting in reverse to get it to go into reverse. I have put on a Centerforce clutch and a long through slave. Thanks for any advice.
