I have found that a fuel shut off valve is very effective as a theft guard.
The car will generally stall after about one minute after the carb runs dry.
Some people use a a valve with a lock and key but if you just put it in an area that is concealed to the eye and easy to access, like right under the tank, it is very effective.
Just remeber to open the valve before you decide to drive it.
