Reply to "tie rod ends & steering rack"

The design of the steering and tierods is similar to the early Ford Pinto. There's a spring-loaded joint (adjusted properly by using a ring spanner or crudely with a pipe wrench or vise-grips) that sets the tightness of the rod's spherical joint. When proper, the rod will not quite sag under its own weight while horizontal. Wire brush clean the threads for the tierod end and hold the rod with vice-grips while tighhtening the nut.
