Loosen the nut on the tie-rod end, But don't remove it. One hammer is held behind and in contact with the Mounting Point of the tapered stud. With the other Sledge Hammer give the Mount a GOOD Whack at the mounting point! It may take two or three trys. The tapered stud wll 'Pop' right out like Magic!! The Nut is left ON so the Tie-Rod doen't fly out and hit something. Most Spindles have a Cast-in 'Boss' just for this purpose of being hit with a Hammer. Believe it or Don't!!...

Sounds like fun! And an excuse to buy big hammers. I like it.

Anyway, I am trying to visualize the technique above and wanted to clarify. So basically, one hammer is on one side of the steering arm/mounting point and I whack the other side?
