Germany had a lot of interesting aircraft. They were prohibited from making bombers but they made transports (that were quickly converted).

They had a lot of aero type programs for kids before WWII. Kind of like the 4H stuff. It developed a lot of open thinking to aviation and created a wide variety of bizar and unique aircraft. The ME 262 was slated as a fighter and Hitler wanted them to change the design and make it a bomber. By the time they got the 262 re-configured as a fighter they had lost a lot of time and the war was almost over. If they had gotten the 262 out earlier they could have put a real hurt on us.
