That is it exactly, Jeff.
I am using a few year old Canon Powershot digital still camera that also takes video. I got short and long arms, extensions and a few other brackets so I had alot of options. They also have flexible extensions which are pretty good. I also got a U-clamp mount and the whole unit stays bolted to the rollbar.
But remember, once you bolt it all in place it's impossible to look thru the lense, so what you really need is a camera with a rotating, flip screen so you can see what it sees when you are in the car.
I can turn it on and off at will now. I wish I could pan and rotate though. I also wish I could find a plug-in microphone so I don't pick up all the wind noise. If I could, I'd mount the microphone in the engine bay.
