I know exactly what you mean, I, too, am an 'old guy' with a red Pantera and I prefer to be incognito. I just love the cars. My Pantera is still my first love and is the beast. The NSX and Ferrari are just toys I like, for my enjoyment.
You are correct about the driving of (any) mid engine cars, If you don't know how to handle them, stay out of real demanding twisties.
