In order to get the decklid to pop up a bit you'd have to put a spring either on the decklid latch, or on the latching machanism bolted to the body. You'd have to experiment with different spring diameters, heights, and thicknesses to achieve the desired result. A hood spring from an older car might be a good starting point.

You could put the spring (or springs) anywhere along the ledge where the latching mechanism bolts to, but I'd be concerned with potentially bending the underside of the decklid with the contact or constant pressure. For that reason, I'd stick to incorporating it into the latching area somehow.

It sounds like a good idea, one handed deckild operation is difinitely useful! (I hate having to put everything down just to open the decklid.)
