I don't recommend gluing layers of gaskets together either. Fel Pro 1636 gaskets are just a nice gasket made laminated by them not me. As for removing the baffles I have also done that and yes it does create more room, however I did find that once I did that I noticed more oil residue around my breathers and eventually on my valve covers. I am guessing better quality breather caps and rubber grommets would have helped prevent this.
