I'm betting the European Ford Escort, which is a transverse engine front wheel drive. Don't know much about the US version. Remember engines are smaller in the UK, auto transmissions are infrequent limited options for grannies, invalids and American tourists only. BTW if you pass your driving test in an auto in the UK you are restricted to driving only autos! Take it that anything European that doesn't mention transmission is for a 'standard' manual transmission.
