Shift rod doesn't change so shifting is mostly the same. It's just the knob that sits lower. Puts your hand in a better position. You have more leverage (bigger knob) so it's easier to shift. It's a lot quieter too. Doesn't rattle like my aluminum one used to. Doesn't get hot on a sunny day, which is great for the summer. Doesn't get too cold either, but here in SoCal, that isn't much of an issue.
