Reply to "Voltage regulator started smoking on initial connection"

I inspected the wires and they look correct. Then I connected an old voltage regulator and it did not smoke. After some time it did start to get warm but I think that is normal when the key is in the run position. It would be helpful if anyone can confirm that the voltage regulator should be warm when doing this test.
