Why do guys always put ourselves in a position where the wife has the final decision - or veto?

What is wrong with this dynamic? :

You want something, she doesn't - So you don't get it.

You don't want something, she does - so you get it.

How about:
I want something - we get it.
She wants something - we get it.

We only live once. Why go through life with regrets.
