Reply to "Wanted: rolling Pantera body"

James,

Cquirk has a good point, what are the restrictions on a LHD Pantera in Australia these days? When I lived in NSW I had a Corvette and remember they all HAD to be converted to RHD, is that the case for a Pantera?

A LHD to RHD conversion is going to be quite a task, very few RHD Panteras were ever made (25 or so), so parts are rare. You will have to swap over the pedal box, brake booster and battery etc. and fabricate a 'one off' dash.

There are a couple of RHD Panteras advertised on www.carpoint.com.au at the moment for high AU$80's (~US$65K), which considering their rarity and the cost of importation, excise taxes, roadworthy certs, conversion etc. etc. probably isn't a bad price and not much more than the equivalent car here in the US. Both appear to have a lot of upgrades one being a Twin Turbo with late GT5 interior. I bet you'll easily exceed that price by buying a wreck here in the US and then sourcing all the parts, having them shipped out and doing the conversion.

You should probably touch base with Dennis (aka Downunder) who is more in touch with the Australian Pantera scene and may know of more cars for sale locally.

Julian
