What makes you smile? Every time?

One of the risks of getting older is that you start to take things for granted, right? And you move the bar on what impresses you. In the car world, I bought a Triumph Spitfire with a 4 cyl 75HP engine when I was 16. To me it was the hottest thing, and here in Denmark, it was quite unique. When I was a few years older I saw and especially heard for the first time a healthy V8 being driven like crazy, and suddenly my Spitfire seemed a bit tame...

I won't bore you with the whole list of cars I've had, but the point is that I often found after a few years, sometimes after a few months, that I gotten used to it, it was not that exciting any more. I guess that taken to the extreme, this is why it's sometimes said that old people die because they don't have the desire to see and experience more, they've been there and done that...

Well before I get too philosophical, let me tell you the good news, there are still a few things that puts a smile on my face, every time. Here's my top 3:
Number 3: The Nardi wooden steering wheel in my Longchamp. It's such a quality item, and just driving the Longchamp through the Nardi steering wheel makes me feel like a rich and powerful 1970s mafioso type. I've got Wayfarer sunglasses as well Cool
Number 2: Starting my twin engine Baja Outlaw. To me it's fascinating every time. Start the first engine, and more or less wake up the whole harbour. Everybody will be looking, some with a smile, some mad as hell. Then start the second engine. Having twin engines in this country of $10/gallon fuel is rare Razzer
Number 1: Starting my Pantera. It's more or less unmuffled, it's loud and powerful, and it's like being at Le Mans every time. It's raw and primeval Big Grin
