At the factory (and most other Italian car builders) each model was called by a 'type' or 'tipo'. The Pantera was tipo 874, the 1970 F-1 racer was tipo 505 and so on. But neither I nor any or my contacts can find a 'tipo' for the 401 Mangustas built! Anyone on this list have a clue?
Part of the problem may be, on the other cars, the type-number is found on the engine plate and I've yet to see a Mangusta with an engine plate. Instead what they have is that odd plate that says 'This car passes none of the U.S DOT requirements, but because its a small company and a pretty machine, we'll let them sell a few cars anyway'.
