SOBill has a great site with all the wiring diagrams you could want at http://www.panteraplace.com/page107.htm

The black wire goes to the speed switch (LOW) and then to the resister side of the fan motor. The Resister is part of the fan motor but there should be 2 terminals there. High speed by passes the resister.
