I just had a guy come in and do my windscreen for me being the rank amateur that I am...

He used both the string and hook. But as Kirk descibed, he fitted the rubber around the glass, then the made sure the trim was in place properly then ran the string in before fitting it to the car.

He started on the bottom edge near the passenger corner then went up from there around the A pillar then across the top using the hook to make sure everything "lipped" out properly as he went.

Eventually worked his way across the top then down the drivers A pillar then along the bottom. Always making sure as he went the rubber was coming out and sealing both sides as he went.

He had a glass holder "thingy" (those two pad suction handles) that he used to then make sure everything was centred by "bumping" the screen about as needed intil he got it right.
