Only the early cars had lights in the switches. The bulbs are mini incandescents shining thru green windows in the switches. If your fingers are extremely small and you have a high tolerance for pain while lying on your back across the seats & under the dash, the existing bulb(s) can be changed. I tried it both ways on my '72, including pulling the dashboard for access. But the switch(es) won't go into the dash with the clip-on bulb/sockets in position, and getting the bulb assy up in there with the dash in place is an exercise in blind groping. I was eventually successful but chase everyone out of the garage before you start.... foul language alert!
