The tachometer wire normally goes to the negative side of the coil as depicted in the above diagram. AS LArry says check the Hyfire 6a doesn't require a tach adapter to work with the stock tach as the MSD boxes do require one.

SOBill recently discussed a work around to purchasing a tach adapter on the e-mail list, I'll have to search it out.
