Unfortunate but true. I blew my amp gauge on the goose last year. Ordered a 'replacement', one from one of the vendors ($120+ shipping +duties...) when I got it here it had a chrome ring, so I told myself, to save time, lets change the ring, well the ring was totaly different from the new set-up and I could not install the new intrument in the old housing.(worst now I cant return it) Ended-up going to a larger volume Auto Part place, bought a $20 amp guage, changed the face over and instaled the guts in the old housing. A couple of hours later I was back on the road.

So if you have an old gauge, see if you can install a newer style mechanism in the housing. At the end of the day you have to decide: time or money (pun intended)
