Reply to "ZF-2 output shafts"

Some installations use steel adapters between the CV halfshafts and inner/outer stub axles. This kind will simply bolt on, as Ron said.

Method 2 uses stock BMW M-1 Super-ZF inner & outer stub axles with NO adapters needed. To install these inner stub axles, the ZF must be removed & the side covers stripped to add new stub axles. If you feel lucky and re-use the same inner bearings & races in the side plates, the same bearing shims MAY fit; they did in our ZF. You'll also have to strip the rear uprights to replace the outer stub axles with M-1 parts.

Note- M-1 pieces are even more pricy than 'std' ZF stuff- check with Lloyd Butfoy at RBT Tansmissions for prices & availability. When adding CV axles, depending on what size exhausts you use & their routing, you may have to reverse the axles so the CV boots are well clear of the exhaust pipes. Otherwise, exhaust heat will melt the boots, you loose the grease inside, the joint goes dry and the CV breaks.
