The gearing is exactly what attracted me to the unit.
My personal opinion is that first gear ratio in the car, with the stock -2, should be numerically higher, i.e., around 2.70:1. The 2.58 first gear is much better then the stock 2.20.
The 2.58 with the 4.22 rear gives a better range of torque ratio for a launch that can use the torque of the 351.
Hall went the other way which works also. He installed the 5.37:1 rear in the -2 with the 2.20 first gear and went sub 10's in the quarter.
What is the proper torque ratio for a performance car? Simple. Multiply the first gear x the rear ratio. The product should be in the 11 to 15 area.
First gear from RBT is around $900. That's a lot cheaper then $3000 for a ring and pinion and doesn't kill the top end.
Anyway, the 6 speed had a couple of better first gear ratios available as well as fifth and and sixth.
Anyone got a 2.58 first gear for sale? That would help me out some.
