Reply to "ZF Trans Repair"

The ZF case is weldable aluminum; anyone that can TIG-weld decently could fix the crack. But from your description, I can't tell what area you're describing. First, the crack must be ground out with a die-grinder, and that will spread chips of aluminum over everything, so the gears must be removed from the affected area before making a mess and fouling up the ball bearings and synchronizers. Detroit is not a hot-bed of Pantera-fix-it shops to my knowlege. There are some near the East Coast, though.
