side view mirrors

Need side view mirrors in order to drive car safely. Could install the chrome, dealer installed type, but that would require drilling the doors. Saw a post here:

That said the Vitaloni Baby Turbos could be "mounted to a steel quadrant that is simply slid between the glass and window rubber, no drilling or gluing."

2 questions:

1. What is this steel quadrant? How does it work?

2. What would you do? Doors are not currently drilled.
