I need some feedback on how to paint my new bumper in my 1974. The original bumper has delaminated and the metal inside is beyond saving. I am replacing the bumper with a fiberglass bumper and have to think about what to paint it. Any advice would be appreciated, even if eventually ignored Smiler
The car is currently painted medium blue so it is not original, but is also not radically modified. Do I paint the bumper to match the current overall paint, semi matt black or go with glossy black. Thanks for you opinions in advance.

Same color. Well, maybe. I did a quick search for a picture of one with this treatment and can't fine it. I know I've seen a red one like this. Another avenue is to take a picture and photoshop it with the different bumper colors. Or, of course, you could paint them blue and if you don't like it, change it to black.

go for small chrome bumpers front and back

Me likey! Actually, I was going to propose this, but being an L-model, you have holes in the body for the bumper shocks. But Kirk Evans offers some real nice bumperettes that cover those nicely and strike a nice compromise/balance between and L and pre-L appearance, especially in the front.
I just completed a similar project with my '74L. Installed Kirk's front bumpers and after looking at a bunch of photos, decided to go with a matte/semi gloss black finish. I used Hot Rod Black from SEM. They sell it as a kit with paint, solvent and hardener. I am by no means a pro painter but was able to obtain a near factory finish that should be much more durable than rattle can. The paint wasn't cheap but I had plenty of product to refinish the rear bumper at the same time for a great match front to rear.
Regards,Steve
